Welcome to the School of Industrial Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. I invite you to browse this site to learn more about the School and Industrial Engineering as a career.
Industrial Engineering at OU is a vibrant program that balances an outstanding academic curriculum with faculty working in state of the art research programs. Our faculty are recognized as outstanding teachers and have received national and university awards for excellence in teaching. In addition, our faculty have active research programs with funding from agencies including the National Science Foundation, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Department of Defense, the Department of Transportation, and NASA. Currently, total research dollars in force exceeds $3 million. The School of Industrial Engineering has excellent resources to provide our students the academic experiences that lead to successful professional careers.
Undergraduate students in the School of Industrial Engineering are provided a curriculum that balances a breadth of academic coursework with the opportunity to gain depth of knowledge in a chosen area(s) through choice of electives. Many courses provide hands-on learning experiences and our curriculum culminates with a Capstone course that puts teams of students to work for an industry sponsor. In addition to the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, we have established partnerships with other schools to provide enhanced undergraduate curricula to suit the diverse interests of our student body (see the undergraduate studies page for more details). Our undergraduate IE curriculum stands apart from many others in that it offers students both a breadth and depth of knowledge that allows our graduates to work in virtually any industry.
Our graduate program is also designed to meet the specific interests of students. We offer two different tracks for the Master of Science in IE. The Engineering Management specialization is designed for students who are interested in applying IE principles in the management of technical enterprises. The thesis track is a research – based program that provides the student with a greater depth of knowledge in their research area and prepares them to continue to a Ph.D. or to enter the workforce. Our graduate program currently is ranked 32th by U.S. News & World Report.
We are very proud of the accomplishments of our Industrial Engineering family. Whether you are a prospective student, colleague, or alumnus, I invite you to visit and learn more about us.Randa L. Shehab, Ph.D.
