Fellowships and Graduate Assistantships

Graduate fellowships and research and teaching assistantships are available to outstanding students. They start at $7,398 for nine months, in addition to a waiver of out-of-state tuition fees. Oklahoma residents can also qualify for in-state-fee-waiver scholarships. Applicants are requested to submit the scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) as part of their assistantship application.

Based on faculty recommendations and availability of funds, students will be considered for a teaching/research assistantship within the first year of their residence.

If selected as a teaching assistant, the student must complete the training required by the University. This training is for all teaching assistants new to the University. The training program consists of two workshops:

  • The ITA Training Programexternal link - opens in new window is a five-day workshop that targets the special needs of new international teaching assistants.
  • The ATA Programexternal link - opens in new window combines one full day of workshop sessions, followed by three subsequent days of flexibly scheduled sessions. These workshops provide time to practice classroom skills that are necessary for all new teaching assistants.

After being selected as a teaching assistant, the Instructional Development Department will contact you with more information on these training sessions.

Occasionally, external organizations will contact us for fellowship nominees. You will be notified by the nominating professor if you have been chosen as an OU applicant. Please note that in order to be eligible for the IIE fellowship you must be a paid member of the national society. The same requirement is true of any national society fellowship.
